Riding the Kove 450 Rally through a variety of terrain - from pavement and wide open gravel, to rough muddy two tracks and technical singletrack. The hype is real - Kove knocked it out of the park with this one. It feels capable and high quality, and was definitely one of the most fun motorcycles I've ridden.

Initial impressions of the Carapaks offset foot pegs - 5mm back / 5mm down. I'm riding a 2023 GasGas EC300 These add a lot more grip to the rear wheel and make it a bit easier to balance. They do this at the expense of the front end feel. I think these pegs are great for hard enduro and slower technical riding where quick feeling / flick-able front end isn't that important.

      Beta and Sherco have a very different feel to them in pretty much every way... not saying one is better than the other, but they are very different in my opinion.

      8 liters total capacity to be clear, not water capacity... theoretically. I haven't personally measured it, so ask USWE :D I also now have a USWE Raw 12 that I bought for Romaniacs. It works better if I need to carry something like a rain jacket inside.

    Thank you for putting this video together, doing the testing etc. I’ve recently had a near miss without anything other than D30 for impact on enduro trails. I twisted my knee outward which hurt like hell. It’s ok now but reinjury is to easy each time I get into steep and tight sections in the back of my mind I’m like, stop first then put your foot down. This video helped me pull the trigger on the POD’s.

      Have you gotten an MRI? If you're saying "reinjury is easy" after that twisted event, you might have something going on there that needs to be addressed. Knee surgery sucks, but not having stability and repeatedly popping it out and such will cause major problems for the joint in the long term.

      It's a big selling point for Husqvarnas in general. I'm relatively tall and have fairly good balance, but even I think many bikes have gotten too tall. From my experience most normal people fall over way more often from not being able to dab than run out of ground clearance. or suspension travel.

      @@DmitriyAdv yea ive fallen off both my bikes more while going slow or not moving at all from not being able to fully touch the ground than actually moving faster. especially happens when Im going down a sketchy hill and trying to use my feet for support till I run out of ground.

    After watching your vids I became more interested in this bike. Then I went through its specs, cost, and compared it to other bikes. This thing in 2024 retails for $10,250 dollars. It weights more than a YZ250X when either bike is fueled up and costs more than $2000.00 dollars more. I know it is bristling with technology, but that is a tough financial pill to swallow. And there is something to be said about the absolute proven and tech free design of the YZX's. Furthermore, a YZ125X full of gas and ready to go only weights 212lbs and is almost $3500 dollars less expensive. To me this makes the Husky a really tough sell. Even compared to its stable mates, the 150X is expensive. For a little more money you can get a TE250, which ironically, weighs the same as the TE300 so a little more than the 250, the 300 seems to be the most practical of all of the Husky bikes.

      @@easternyellowjacket276 you bring up some interesting points! I think there are a couple things at play here. In a nutshell, I don’t think one buys a smaller displacement bike to save money, it’s not really what they’re for. They are a tool for a specific purpose, and are positioned as such in the model lineups for each manufacturer. This (especially with 125cc two strokes) has traditionally been as a stepping stone for younger riders/racers coming from small wheel 85’s to their first “big bike”. The 150 is the more off-road/enduro focused version of that same principle. Costing slightly less is nothing but a marketing gimmick, because realistically the production costs between a 125/150 and a 250/300 are probably almost identical aside from a few pieces being a bit smaller. How much does 10lbs of aluminum and steel cost? $100 at most I’d guess. So really, people buy small bore two strokes because that’s what they need… whether it’s for their kids, or to learn the skills that those bikes teach you, as in my case. There are also all sorts of race classes that are cc specific - for example lites or 250cc classes, which is what people get 250cc 2 strokes for. The other aspect is that from a purely financial standpoint, I think cost of ownership is ultimately more important than the selling price. Putting maintenance costs aside, that’s purchase price minus used market sale price. In specific terms, my Husky cost me more than a YZ125X would - sure, but it I also sold two years / 130 hours later for more than I would have paid for that brand new YZ125X. With any popular brand, depreciation is likely pretty similar. KTM 300 two strokes are super popular, so they tend to be easier to sell and more in demand on the used market. Anything small bore is slightly more niche and difficult. Weight figures on paper tell a very small part of the story. I do a lot of hard enduro badly, so I drag bikes a lot, and some supposedly light bikes are very heavy and some heavy bikes are light simply because of where the weight is. Aside from the smaller amount of rotating mass giving it a more “flickable” feeling, the difference between a 150 and a 250/300 when picking them up is almost non-existent. I bet if I put two bikes side by side upside down on a hill and covered their logos, most people couldn’t accurately tell the difference. Lastly - the most important thing is what do you want the bike for? I’ve ridden a YZ125X and a YZ250X. They are VERY different motorcycles than a 150i, or any of the European two strokes for that matter. The Yamaha chassis and suspension is superb, but the lack of e-start is a serious drawback in technical riding and neither bike loves going super slow as much as the euro bikes do - the are cross country race bikes and feel it. Specific to the 150 vs 125x, the bottom end power advantage on the 150 is very significant.

    Props to you for riding that good and fast on the stock IRCs! The first time I took my 300l on a trail I knew I had to change them right away. I put some tusk d sports on and I’m pretty happy with off road and road performance. Great video keep up the good content!

    Great review. Good to see how it handle our BC terrain. This would be a good replacement for my DRZ400 but not a replacement for my exc-f 350 for sure. The Kove is not an enduro bike but like with a DRZ it can do 95% of it with decent rider on it I would assume. Thanks for this video

      Thanks for watching! I've had a DRZ years back, and would 100% take a Kove over that for any sort of dual sport type duty. The suspension and chassis is in another league on the Kove (it's a much newer bike), despite being heavier I feel like it actually manages it's weight better and feels less top heavy. Fuel injection is also a huge plus for me personally, and probably nice to have in BC where the temperature and elevation can vary a lot in a single day.

      Yeah, I think the outlander will last about 3 rides in bushy terrain. Meanwhile I've been using the Raw for 2 years and probably 200 hours of riding now. Including a dozen east coast "hard" enduro events and a bunch of other racing. It still looks great.

    S12 =heavy, bulky, no shifter /brake/ foot peg feel, super high toe box and lacks grip on the motorcycle . It's a dated design unchanged in 10+ years other than color.

      Thanks for your comment, but I’m going to disagree with you here, on almost all points. Heavy and bulky compared to what? A much lighter boot with a soft sole will have much less protection - the sole has to be stiff for your foot to stay protected and the hard plastic has to be there for the same reason. I’ve tried on similar boots from Sidi and Forma and they are similar in weight and construction. I think the feel of the controls is great once these are broken in properly. I don’t find the much less protective AlpineStars tech 7 to be better in this department personally. I own both, bought both with my own money, have ridden both of them back to back, and can ride just as comfortably in either. Your mileage may vary due to fit, but this is my experience. I find the toe box is actually fairly slim compared to some other boots. They redesigned this portion to slim it down from its original shape.

      Yep. They extend as far as you want them to really as it's up to you where you mount them on the bars. I run mine about even with the end of the bars.

    99% of Adventure boots are street abrasion reistance boots only and are not true off-road boots. The Sidi 2 are reasonable, boarder line for offering adventure riding protection. I like my Tech 7's and have had my KTM enduro and Yamaha MX bikes ontop of my boots many times and along with Mobius knee guards have never had a lower body injury over years. Many AMA pro MX & SX riders prefer & wear the Tech 7 over the Tech 10 boots.

      Thanks for your comment and feedback on the Tech 7s! I feel like whats "enough" protection is a very personal choice with a lot of personal variables involved. There are many people who don't wear any upper body armor and many who like to pad every bone in their body.

    Ive never had so much fun riding than on a 150. My bike was down 1 weekend and a 150 was lended to me. I thought right away that this was going to be brutal. Boy was i wrong!!! That bike went everywhere the 300's went. Being able to ride a bike to its full potential was a feeling of incrdibel joy. Fully tapped out in first second third for the majority of time. if i did that on a 250 or 300 I'd be dead. The slow stuff was great too. I high centered myself on a log in a river. I thought ok now im in trouble, lets see what happens. Well a little hip thrust forward with some gas and a little clutch that bike went up and over that log like nothing. My jaw dropped!! And i wasnt even tired when we got back to the the trucks. My friends on their 300's were exhausted. It was a huge ego check for me.

      I'm not sure what size my buddy had on there, but that would make sense. It felt like a geometry thing, like the bars being rolled forward, or forks being raised up in the clamps.

    You might laugh, but this is the bike I'm leaning towards. I'll need to do a few mods, hand guards, skid plate, rad guard, bigger fuel tank, foot pegs and of course suspension and a better seat. Once done you have a reasonable dual sport that's long range, crazy reliable, oil changes every 10k kms, and barely capable of highway speeds. In the Philippines it will run about 6.5-7k CAD, the parts and the bike are a bit cheaper there. The high seat height, ground clearance, low weight and and especially the range is very nice. It's 25 kms to the nearest gas station. Plus it's appropriate for my skill level lol. Nice riding and thanks for the honest review 👍

      Honestly if I wanted a dual sport for longer trips or general exploring, especially outside the US - this bike would be high on my list. Cheap, reliable, low maintenance. Compared to my KTM 350 or even something like a CRF450L or Yamaha WR250R, the CRF300L is also much more relaxing and easier to ride.

      I hear you! I think "back" is a very situation/application dependent thing, just like tires. I will say that I really enjoy the sharper teeth, my feet have been staying very planted and the general feel of the pegs is superb.

      Only modification on those bikes were the hand guards. Everything else completely stock - suspension, tires, everything... even stock (lack of) skid plate :D

      Horses for courses, but the CRF 300L is definitely an awesome bike to explore on. Surprisingly nice on the highway too, super smooth! As long as you're not asking it to go super fast obviously.

    Great video, you're a good speaker. Be great to hear your thoughts on going from the 150 to the ec300. I have a 150tpi and a beta 200, love the quieter torque of the 200 but it has some shortcomings compared to the 150, the 150 has a lighter feel. When I jumped on an ec300 I was surprised at how heavy it is. I know horses for courses.

      Thanks! I appreciate the feedback! I loved the 150 because of the light feel and flickability, but the actual weight (when picking up or dragging) between the two is not that different. The 150 was also a great learning tool - you have to carry more speed through corners, and it's light feel made it less intimidating when hitting larger obstacles. It absolutely made me a better rider, and when I hopped back onto a 300 I was much quicker in both open and technical terrain than I was on the 300 that I had before the 150. The main disadvantage of small bore two strokes is that they don't lug and find traction nearly as well as a 300 (or even a 250). This is something that is absolutely critical in hard enduro situations where you are going up ridiculously steep terrain that is also very slippery. Hard enduro is primarily what I ride/race and is ultimately why I ended up switching from the 150 back to a 300.

    Would you recommend this xtrainer or 200rr for beginner rider? Came back from demo day today. Rode 300rr, which I thouth I'd prefer, but felt it was too much bike and it wore me out quick. Felt xtrainer or 200rr was the sweet spot for me at this point? Nice review. Thanks for that!

      In my opinion it would depend on what kind of trails you ride and how tall you are. The Xtrainer is awesome for slow gnarly stuff and shorter riders. The 200rr has better suspension, so it works well for faster trails, but is also a bit taller as a result

      1st gear, stock gearing. It would probably work in 2nd gear as well with a bit more revs and aggressive clutch work

    Well done video. I have not tried many OTC braces I have used a few custom ones through the years: Donjoy Defiance I, II, III, CTi 1, 2, and I actually did have a set of CTi OTC (more on that later). I agree that the Defiance is your best option, and I frankly don't think it's close. The Defiance have all fit very well and they have the option for a short lower frame if you want it to mount outside your boots. The CTi 1 I had was not bad but was never anywhere close to as comfortable as the Defiance I or II. I agree that the down side is the hard shell protection. I wear Leatt Dual Axis Knee Guards and I wish there was a hybrid of the two concepts. I tried to get a set of CTi 2 braces about ten years ago and they made two sets and could not get them to fit correctly and eliminate all pressure points. When they gave up, they gave me a pair of OTC braces (as in the video). These were "OK" but the fit was not what I would call great and I threw them away before I got a whole lot of use out of them and went back to the Defiance. In my opinion, any of the modern OTC moto specific braces would be better than the CTi OTC. I also noticed that the distance between the hinges was by far the widest with these braces, making them very difficult to wear under most moto pants.

      Thanks for sharing your experience! I would probably keep wearing the Defiance, but I now have some hardware in that leg (due to another injury) that that makes them uncomfortable. I've been very happy with the Mobius over the past couple of years, they work really well for the kind of riding I do.

    Great Review! I’m a street rider ( returning after 25 years). I’m looking for a protected boot and considering moto x and just leaving in boxes and carrying street shoes to change into. I’m surprised at lack of good protective street boot.

      There are some pretty protective road racing boots out there. Speaking from experience, I think an MX boot might be somewhat difficult to operate typical street bike controls with. The reality is that mx style impact protection (boots, body protectors...etc) really only works at relatively low speeds and for things like smashing your feet against rocks, stumps, and other motorcycles. You may want to look at something like a trials boot as Ryan F9 suggests.

      @@dominic9279 Not sure, there are some dynos of the 2020 500 RR-S around, which is probably somewhat similar. The 480 feels very similar to the KTM 500 to me in terms of engine character.

    Just curious about your opinion on the comparison of the 300 engine between the 300RR and the XTrainer. I bought the XTrainer as my first 2-stroke because of the linear power delivery, the ability to modify the engine to be like the 300RR's if I ever feel like I want it in the future, and because of the lower seat height. I mentioned something about getting the 300RR pipe and air filter cage and getting the engine to be like the 300RR's and someone else told me I was thinking about it in the wrong way; that people with the 300RR and Race Editions should try to make their power more like the power on the XTrainer. Thoughts?

      It depends on what you want to use the bike for. The power on the Xtrainer is very linear and almost docile. It's not a very racey motor, so it will probably fit people who aren't looking to go fast better. I've seen quite a few Xtrainers with 300RR pipes. Would make quite the woods weapon!

      Both KTM and Beta have their advantages, so it all depends on what's important to you. For example - I think the KTM has a slightly better tuned suspension out of the box (vs the RR) and better/easier parts availability. Beta has a lower seat height and longer maintenance intervals.

      @@silver244 I have a 2018 KTM 350 EXC-F that I put about 100 hours of various offroad riding on, and a buddy of mine has a 2021 KTM 350 EXC-F. Both have PDS (no linkage) suspension - stock, not lowered. Both of us are 5'11" and intermediate riders pretty comfortable in any terrain. With the sag set correctly we both find the KTMs on the tall side for gnarlier riding, dabbing definitely becomes much more challenging and I tip over over more often than I do on my GasGas EC300 (linkage). It's not a huge issue for us, but might be for a shorter rider like yourself.

      They're pretty light/nimble feeling. Much closer to a 300 than a 450 in my opinion. Keeping in mind that the 4 strokes always feel a bit more substantial than two strokes

      I started with a couple entry level helmets from Fly and HJC after which I decided to not cheap out anymore and get the best protection possible. So I went to a 6D (also tried a Bell Moto9, but the fit wasn't good), which I still have and use occasionally. Then to a Klim F5, because of it's weight and ventilation, then to then this helmet because I was missing the concussion prevention features of the 6D. I considered/tried a bunch of others on that didn't fit well or didn't offer the level of protection I was looking for.

      Yep, it's the same. The race edition is the one that's different. If I didn't already have a KTM 350 for dual sport duties, I'd be seriously looking at the 390 RR-S myself.

      @@DmitriyAdvWe had dual spark 2 strokes at our demo so they were 24’s . Bikes probably have been through a lot of plastics so dealers probably put what they had on them. Also, tires were 30psi at ours in some mud. Once we lowered them bikes felt way better.
